Migrate to Google Applications Email (Gmail)

Contacts or Email+Contacts?

Your first decision when migrating to Google Apps is: Do I want (a) just my contacts or (b) Email AND Contacts?

CONTACTS
If you just want your contacts, most email programs - even web-based email - allow you to export your contacts.  So do that first.  Here is a link to help you with some common services: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12118

Here is how to export your address book from Godaddy WebMail: http://help.godaddy.com/article/2793

You will be able to IMPORT those contacts into Google Apps Gmail by following this tutorial:  http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=14024

EMAIL
If you use a web-based email service and want your email too - you need to set up an email client to check your email.  There are lots of options here, but I promote free open source software - so I have chosen Thunderbird as the example.

Below is a method to transfer Godaddy web-based email to Google Apps (Gmail) that should work for windows PCs and Macs:

1. Download Thunderbird: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

-If you need help with anything related to Thunderbird - look here

2. Configure Thunderbird to get your Godaddy email: http://products.secureserver.net/email/email_thunderbird.htm

3. Check your email to download all email.

4. Archive your email for safe keeping by copying your profile folder and saving it somewhere safe.  Read about your Profile folder in Thunderbird here: http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/profile#locate

5. If you WANT, you can use Thunderbird to handle your Google Apps email account.  Just follow this tutorial to set it up: https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13285
USE IMAP!  We HIGHLY recommend using IMAP with all of your email clients, including your phone.   Read more about it here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=75725

Here is a list of other email clients with setup instructions for your new Google Apps Gmail account: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=77662
